Pacific Crest Trail 2015

The Pacific Crest Trail (“PCT”), along with the Appalachian Trail and the Continental Divide Trail, is one of the triple-crown long-distance hiking trails. It was officially made a National Scenic Trail in 1968. It is 4265km/2650mi long, traversing the length of the Sierra and Cascade Mountains through California, Oregon, and Washington.  The trail is relatively high in elevation, starting at 2,915ft/888m at the Mexican Border, and reaching a highpoint of 4023m/13,200ft on Forrester Pass in the Sierras. On its way to Canada, the trail passes through 25 National Forests, 6 National Parks, 5 National Monuments, 5 State Parks, and 48 Wilderness areas. There is a wide range of terrain, including desert, glaciated ridges and valleys, farmland, irrigation canals, volcanic peaks, boreal forests, and even some roadwalking.
